Volunteering
If you are looking at this web page you must be thinking about volunteering for the Yare Valley RDA Group – undecided ?
We need you !
The group would not exist without the dedicated volunteers who freely give their time, energy and enthusiasm – but we could always do with more volunteers as everyone needs holidays !
The more volunteers we have the more fun we have!

The more volunteers we have the more fun we have!
Now for the information bit -
We have sessions every Monday and Tuesday during school term time, lessons running from 10 – 12 but we like volunteers to arrive about 9.30 to help set up the indoor school, collect the ponies and tack up – (and get the tea and coffee ready) ! Likewise it’s really helpful if volunteers can stay until 12.15 to clear away school and return ponies to their stables.
We run sessions for 3 Special Needs Schools, who bring KS1 children with different abilities. Each session has 3 ponies and many of the children will require 3 helpers – one to lead the pony, and two side walkers. Other volunteers are needed to help the children mount the pony, assist with hat fitting, complete riding records – and poo clearing!
However, if you want to be involved with the RDA group but feel your physical fitness isn’t up to running around a school we would welcome you to take on other roles such as fund raising, committee jobs and record keeping.
Experience with children or ponies – or both – is helpful but not essential. We will train you in return for your enthusiasm !
We have a rota for our volunteers to tell us when they are available so you don’t have to do both sessions or even every week, so long as we can rely on your attendance so that the children have enough helpers and a good experience.
As you will be helping children we will require references and will have to carry out a DBS check , which the Yare Valley group will pay for.
Stables, ponies and riding schools are dusty places! Sensible, sometimes warm, clothing and shoes will be needed.
